I did it! I reached the top of Mt. Everest on May 25-th at 7 a.m.
On May 24-th I started in the morning from the camp 7,700 m and reached the camp 8,300 m at around 1 p.m. I rested and melted snow in the camp till late evening, and at 10:30 p.m. I started the final accent. I climbed alone without the group, but there were a lot of other climbers on the route, and that created traffic jam sometimes. The weather was not very co-operative, but acceptable. It was windy, and the snow was falling all night. In the morning the weather was getting better and the wind slowed down. I had to remove my goggles, since they were constantly covered by condensate.
At 7 a.m., May 25-th I reached the summit, I still didn’t realize fully that the dream was achieved, it came later. I made some pictures and started descent at around 7:30 a.m. I descented to the camp 8,300 m, drank a cup of tea. The weather during descent was getting worth and worth. I continued to the camp 7,700 m, passed it, continued to the camp at North Col at 7,100 m, had 4 cups of tea there, descented the ice wall, and finally reached the Advance Base Camp at 6,400 completely exhausted. I was only able to sent satellite messages to my family and sponsors, and fell asleep. Didn’t sleep well actually. All night the snow falled down heavily, it was about 20 cm of freash snow at the camp in the morning.
At around 11 a.m. next day (May 26-th) I continued descent to the Base Camp. It was 20 km travel. The snow was falling all the day, sometimes the trail was not visable. At 6:30 p.m. I reached the safety of the Base Camp, exhausted, I had some food and tea, and fall asleep.
Today is 27-th of May, I am at the Base Camp, with the Internet access, the snow is still falling down (about 15 cm freash snow during the night). The Everest season is over. It has lusted basically only 1.5 days this year (May 24-th and half oh May 25-th). Monsoon is moving over Everest this week. All expeditions have abandoned the climb. Not many people summited Mt. Everest this year, and many people have lost their lives: 17 climbers on the South side. We have 2 missing climbers on the North side. We really hope they will be found alive.
By climbing Mt. Everest I have complited my quest to climb the highest peaks of all seven continents.
Please find some pictures. I even made a picture of my Everest certificate, but it is currently filled in Chinese only and will become official after completing the English part in Kathmandu.
Thanks a lot to all my sponsors and supporters!
